William "Bill" Menzies

William J. “Bill” Menzies, 90, of Oshkosh, formerly of Empire, CO, died Thursday, April 21, 2011 at the Garden County Nursing Home in Oshkosh.
At Bill’s request, cremation was held and there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Bill’s name.

Bill was born on July 11, 1920, in Vanderbilt, Michigan to Arthur “Archie” and Latictia (Winters) Menzies. He grew up in northern Michigan where he received his education. Bill spent three years in the CCC camp in the upper peninsula of Michigan.
Bill was united in marriage to Laura Angeline Conflitti on October 16, 1942 in Ohio.
He worked in Detroit at the aluminum foundries until his health forced him to move west to Colorado.
In Colorado Bill worked in the San Louis Valley with the highway department, also in Colorado, Bill hauled ore, sand and gravel and later had his own excavating business called Menzies Service in Empire and Georgetown, Colorado. He retired in 1997 and moved to Lewellen in early 2001.
Bill enjoyed working on machinery, motors, diesel engines and he loved to read. He was a jack of all trades and was always very self-sufficient in everything he did.
He is survived by his son, Robert John Menzies of Empire, CO; daughters, Billie and husband Daniel Pyzel of Albuquerque, NM, Donya Hughes of Colorado Springs, CO, Margaret “Maggie” and husband Carl Lee House of Lewellen; brother, Bob and wife Hilda Menzies of Richmond, MI; sisters, Lillian Ruth Young of Denver, CO; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura in 1998; an infant daughter, Janice Diane Menzies; his parents; brothers, Lawrence, David, and Harold Menzies; and sisters, Margaritte Alexander and Francis Elaine Buckerfield.
