Rickey Duane Custer, 61, of Oshkosh, passed away early Thursday morning, July 14, 2011 at Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala.

Memorial Services will be held at a 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2011 at the St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Oshkosh with Father Neal Nollette officiating. Naval Honors will be performed following the service. Rosary services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, July 17, 2011 at the church.

Cremation was held and there will be no visitation at the funeral home.

A memorial has been established to the family.

Rickey was born on July 10, 1950 in Oshkosh to Elgan “Tuff” Duane and Fay Ellen (Dayley) Custer.

Rickey attended Garden County Schools and graduated from Garden County High in 1969. While in high school he played football, baseball and in 1968 he won the State Sand Greens Golf Title.

After high school he served as a core man in the Naval Academy from 1970 – 1972 at Camp Pendleton before being honorably discharged. After the Naval Academy he worked in the oil fields with his dad and at the Fort Morgan Beef Plant.

In 1978 he married Vicki Vogt. The couple had 2 children. Benjamin was born in 1980 and Danny in 1981.

In 1990 he married Rosa Uy and the couple moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. To this union Jarlette Uy-Custer was born in 1996.

Rickey returned to Oshkosh in 2002 to be closer to his family and friends. Most recently he was employed by the Garden County News.

Rickey enjoyed fishing at Lake Mac and at the river, golfing at the country club, coaching baseball and announcing at baseball and high school football games.

Rickey is survived by his sons; Benjamin and wife, Stephanie Custer of Loveland, CO and Danny Custer and fiance, Bridgette King of Davenport, IA; daughter, Jarlette Uy-Custer of Las Vegas, Nevada; mother, Fay Ellen Custer of Sterling, CO; 4 grandchildren, Jarad, Makenna, Saige, and Landen; 4 brothers and sisters, Jerry Custer, Linda Custer both of Sterling, CO, Mike Custer of Oshkosh, and Tammy and Dan Mathewson of Sterling, CO; as well as many nieces and nephews and friends.

Preceding Rickey in death was his father, Tuff, in 2008.
