Genene Wright, 85 of Chappell, Nebraska died Sunday morning, July 17, 2011 at the Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, July 20, 2011 in the Berea Lutheran Church northeast of Chappell with Pastor Sarah Cordray officiating. Burial will follow in the Berea Cemetery.
A memorial has been established to be determined later.
Friends may call from 1:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Chappell.
Genene Wright, the daughter of Ernest T. and Elinor (Cole) Olson, was born on April 13, 1926 in rural Garden County. She was raised on a farm in Garden County where she attended a rural school until 8th grade. She continued her schooling in Oshkosh, Nebraska graduating from Oshkosh High School in 1943. After high school she received teacher training in Kearney, Nebraska. She returned to the Garden County area where she taught in a one-room rural schoolhouse.
She was united in marriage to Eldon H. Carlson on April 20, 1947. From this union came three children: Kathie S. Cabela, Max E. Carlson, and Douglas W. Carlson. Eldon preceded her in death on January 16, 1969.
Genene was re-married to Keith Wright on March 31, 1975.
Genene was a very active, lifelong member of Berea Lutheran Church. She was active in Lutheran Church Women, Church circle, and quilting. Her hobbies included gardening, traveling, playing cards, scrabble, and sudoku. She had a passion for wheat farming and remained actively involved in the annual harvest on the family farm throughout her life.
Survivors include her husband Keith Wright; her (1) daughter Kathie S. Cabela and her husband Jerry of Chappell, NE; her (2) sons Max E. Carlson of Julesburg, CO and Douglas W. Carlson of Chappell, NE; her (3) stepchildren Larry Wright and his wife Sherry of Midland, TX, Linda Duncan and her husband Calvin of Chappell, NE and Leta Pontious of Severn, MD; (6) grandchildren Jason Stutzman, Tyler Stutzman, Quince Carlson, Chris Carlson, Bailey Carlson and Nicholas Carlson; her (7) great-grandchildren, her (7) step-grandchildren, and her (1) sister Doris McFee of Chappell, NE.
