Margaret "Peg" Emerson

Margaret “Peg” Emerson, 73, a long-time resident of Lisco, Nebraska, passed away late Monday afternoon, August 8, 2011 at the Binger Nursing Home in Binger Oklahoma with her loving family at her side.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the St. Gall's Catholic Church in Lisco with Father Neal Nollette officiating. Burial will follow in the Lisco Memorial Cemetery.

Friends may call from 1:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. Friday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Oshkosh.

Margaret Anne McCarthy was born on April 1, 1938 in Merna, Nebraska to William Phillip and Blanche Marie (Crocker) McCarthy.

Peg attended a small country school near Merna and later completed her elementary education at Broken Bow. Her family relocated to Hyannis, Nebraska where she graduated high school in 1956.

Peg was a student at the Lincoln School of Commerce, where she was pursuing a degree in accounting, when she met Joe Emerson who was a student at the University of Nebraska. The couple were united in marriage June 21, 1958. Born of this union were four children: Scott Patrick, Sandra Joan, Shari Ann and Stuart Michael.

The Emerson’s spent the majority of their married life farming and ranching near Lisco, Nebraska.
Peg was a very gifted seamstress and artisan. She belonged to several crafting clubs and shared her knowledge and expertise with many, to include numerous local children of 4-H.

Peg expanded her artistic talents to baking and decorating cakes. For years she provided the community with beautiful special occasion and wedding cakes.

After her children were grown, Peg worked outside the home at Marshall Town and the Garden County Hospital and Nursing Home.

Peg enjoyed her children and grandchildren; she loved playing cards with numerous local friends. She was a member of ST. Gall’s Catholic Church and served on the ladies altar society.

She is survived by her husband, Joe Emerson of Lisco; children, Scott and wife, Pam Emerson of Lago Vista, TX, Sandi Hammons of Arlington, TX, Shari Emerson-Gantt of Medicine Park, OK and Stuart Emerson of San Luis Obispo, CA; grandchildren, Bobby Gantt and Caitlin Gantt of Lawton, OK, Jordan Hammons of Arlington, TX, Halee Emerson of Lodgepole, NE, and Jason and wife, Kelly Pruett of Plano, TX; great-grandchildren, Sydney, Austin and Cody Pruett of Plano, TX; and brother, Jack and wife, Sheila McCarthy of Ft. Collins, CO.
Margaret Anne Emerson was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip and Blanche McCarthy and her brother, William James McCarthy.
