Dorothy was born on July 11, 1920, in Lewellen, NE to Herman and Hazel (Schirmer) Jenewein. She was a lifelong resident of the area from Keystone to Oshkosh. She had one brother, Hubert, and four sisters, Elvina, Elvera, Pauline, and Marie.

On December 21, 1939 she was united in marriage to Earl Lloyd Matthews. For the next few years Dorothy and Earl worked on farms and ranches in the area and then in 1950 moved into Oshkosh. In addition to their other work Dorothy and Earl operated the Oshkosh Bakery for several years. After the loss of her husband, Earl Dorothy moved to Denver to help care for her oldest son, Monte during his last years. She maintained her home in Oshkosh until she had to move into assisted living housing in Lewellen. A little over a year later she was moved to the Garden County Nursing Center because of failing health.

While her children were growing up Dorothy was very active in the Pilgrim Holiness Church. She was a gifted spiritual leader with the youth groups and impressed everyone with her enthusiasm and ability to get everyone involved.

The best description of Dorothy’s life is that it was a life of service to her community and her children. Her smile and encouraging words will be greatly missed by her family.

Dorothy is survived by her 6 children, Dorothy (Ted) Matthews-Newman of Oshkosh, Wayne and wife, Judy Matthews of Tulsa, OK, Mick and wife, Rhonda Matthews of Scottsbluff, NE, Beth and husband, LaVere Soper of Scotland, UK, Dan and wife, Kim Matthews of Scottsdale, AZ, and JoAnn Knouse of Amissville, VA; grandchildren, Rebecca and husband, Zine Boukikaz, Barb Matthews, Brenda and husband, Brian Hennegan, David and wife, Kathelene Matthews, LaNita and husband, Mike Underwood, Michael and wife, Crystal Matthews, Daniel and wife, DeDe Matthews, Melinda and husband, Thomas Hallyburton, David Mesteth, Annette and husband, Barry Ashworth, Amber Northfield, Duska and husband, Allan McLeish, Jodi and husband, Henry Schuff, Jennifer and husband, Ty Grey, Angela and husband, David Wilson, Jonathon Matthews, and Christopher and wife, Morgan Matthews; 10 step-grandchildren; 48 that call her great-grandma; 5 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Hubert and wife, Vigilee Jenewein of Hermet, CA; sister, Vera and husband, Bob Allen of Council Bluffs, IA; and a countless number of people of all ages who called her Mom, Grandma and friend!
