Joyce Walters

Joyce Walters, 81 of rural Sidney, Nebraska died Saturday, May 19, 2012 at the Swedish Medical Center in Denver, Colorado.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, June 2, 2012 in the First United Methodist Church in Sidney with the Rev. Thomas Hyde officiating. Services will conclude at the church.

Memorials have been established to the Prairie West Christian Church in Potter or the First United Methodist Church in Sidney.

Cremation has taken place and there is no visitation at the funeral home. Friends who wish can sign Joyce’s register book Friday morning at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney.

Joyce Walters, the daughter of David Earl and Esther (Enochson) Ells was born September 18, 1930 in Sidney. She attended the Sidney schools, graduating from Sidney High School in 1948.

On August 7, 1949 she was united in marriage to Virgil Chester Walters in the First United Methodist Church. They made their home in the west Sidney draw area.

Joyce was a homemaker as well as working as the secretary/treasurer at the First United Methodist Church for 23 years.

She was a fifty plus year member of the First United Methodist Church and was a Past Matron of Providence Chapter #108 of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed baking, cooking, reading and knitting.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years Virgil Walters of Sidney, NE; three sons: Steven Walters and wife Kathy of Kearney, NE, Jerel Walters and wife Jayne of Austin, TX and David Walters of Pueblo, CO; daughter-in-law JoAnne Walters of Ordway, CO; 14 Grandchildren: Matthew Walters and wife Heather, Lisa Carstensen (Walters) and husband Chad, Jacob and Daniel Walters, Dieter Walters and wife Alisha, Torben Walters and wife Raina, Brigham Walters and wife Barbara, Sariah, Santha, Lehi, Tegan, Brogan, JaKota and Jozenn Walters

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.

Holechek Funeral Home and Cremations in Sidney is serving the Walters family.
