Marvin Dean Hoppmann

Marvin Dean Hoppmann, 79 of Goldsboro, North Carolina and a former Chappell area resident died Thursday, January 10, 2013 in Goldsboro.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 19, 2013 in the Zion Lutheran Church in Chappell with Pastor Daniel Larson officiating. Burial will follow in the Chappell Cemetery with military rites provided by the U.S. Air Force.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been designated to the Lutheran Hour or the Dakota Boys Ranch.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Marvin Dean Hoppmann was born in Chappell, Nebraska on August 2, 1933 to the late Henry and Lydia (Schweitzer) Hoppmann. He grew up in the Chappell area where he attended grade school in a country school in Garden County. He then graduated from Lodgepole High School.

He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a radar operator and retired after 21 years of service with the rank of Technical Sergeant. Following his retirement from the military, Marvin worked with Goldsboro Milling Company. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. Marvin had a great love for his cats, Lucky and Red, and will be remembered by many as a master gardener.

Survivors include his brothers: Duane and wife Mary Hoppmann and Melvin Hoppmann all of Tacoma, WA and Norman and wife Jeanette Hoppmann of Columbus, NE; sister-in-laws Barbara and Francis Hoppmann; several nieces and nephews and by special friends James “Toodle” and Marie Sugg, Jeffrey B. Jackson and Athena Doty.

He was preceded in death by brothers Lyle Hoppmann, Albert Hoppmann and twin brother Mervin Hoppmann.
