LaVon Kahl, 72 of Sidney, NE passed away August 2, 2013 at the Northern Colorado Long Term Critical Care Hospital, Johnston, CO.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday August 24, 2013 in the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney with Pastor Leon “Bud” Gillespie officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Dalton Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in care of the family.
Cremation has taken place and there is no visitation at the funeral home. Friends who wish may stop and sign the register book Friday afternoon at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney.
Jean “LaVon” Baker, the daughter of Gene & Fern Baker, was born on January 3, 1941 in Dalton, NE. She grew up in Broadwater, NE and graduated from Broadwater High School in 1958.
LaVon married John “Jack” Schlieker in February of 1957 in Buffalo, SD. They had 3 children, Lori, Curt & Don. While serving in the Navy, Jack was tragically killed in the line of duty in 1966. LaVon moved with her children to Sidney to be closer to family.
In 1974, LaVon married Don Kahl. They owned and operated A-1 Printing for many years until their retirement.
LaVon is survived by her sister, Joan Loghry of Sidney, NE and brother, Duane Baker of South Pasadena, CA; daughter, Lori (Lee) Meecham of Fairmont, MN; sons, Curt and Don Schlieker both of Sidney, NE; step-sons, Don (Susan) Kahl of Washington, DC and Kris Kahl of Oklahoma; step-daughter, Lisa (Jeff) Hedglin of Sidney, NE; 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, brothers Don and Dale Baker, one grandson, Marc Schlieker and step-daughter-in-law, Kristie Kahl.
Holechek Funeral Home and Cremations in Sidney is serving the Kahl family.
