Gladys Holt, 98 of Kearney, Nebraska and a longtime Sidney resident died Sunday afternoon, September 15, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, September 20, 2013 in the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney with Pastor Dave Hall of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M to 6:00 P.M. Thursday at the Holechek Funeral Home.
Memorials have been established to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
Gladys Lucille Holt was born June 24, 1915 at Coleridge, Nebraska to John and Sophia (McKuster) McMann. She moved later with her parents to a farm west of Coleridge and was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hartington, Nebraska. She attended grade school in Cedar County Nebraska, Hilcat, Pearl Creek and District 295 (Happy Valley), before high school in Coleridge and Hartington, graduating in May of 1933.
She married Vincent McMann in November of 1937 in Marengo, Iowa and had one child, Sandra Sue (Kurth) on September 24, 1938.
Gladys married Mathies Holt on December 15, 1952 in Yankton, South Dakota, making their home in Lebanon, Kansas before his death. Gladys moved to Sidney, Nebraska and helped her daughter Sandy in the ceramics business for several years.
In 1974 she married Reuben Johnson and moved to Albion, Nebraska. She and Reuban returned to Sidney where she worked at the Day Care Center from 1978 to 1991. She loved gardening, canning, sewing and family events.
Survivors include her son-in-law Howard Kurth of Sidney, NE; three grandchildren: Cindy Quadhamer and Francine Gehrig both of Kearney, NE and John Kurth of Potter, NE; six great-grandchildren: Christal, Ryan, Holly, April, Matt and Monica; six Great, great-grandchildren; one brother Clifford McMann of Little Rock, CA; one sister Wilma Morbito of Hampton, VA and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by Vincent, Mathies, Reuban and her daughter Sandra Kurth in 1994.
