Robert W. Kelsey, 91, of Sidney passed away peacefully Friday evening, September 27, 2013 at the Sidney Regional Medical Center- Extended Care.
Funeral services for Robert Kelsey will be held at Memorial Gardens in Colorado Springs, CO on Wednesday, October 2nd, at 2:00pm. Interment will follow the service.
Memorials may be made to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Sidney, NE.
Robert (Bob) was born December 25, 1921 in Milford, Iowa to Claire and Gladys (Meister) Kelsey. At a young age the family moved to Colorado Springs. Bob graduated from Cheyenne Mountain High School in 1939. He served his country as a member of the Army Air Corps from 1942-1945 in the China Offensive and India Burma during WWII. He was awarded the American Service Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Service medal, the WWII Victory medal, and a Bronze Star medal. In 1947, Bob was employed by Colorado Interstate Gas in Lakin, KS before transferring to Colorado Springs in 1951 where he remained until his retirement as Director of Gas Control in 1982. It was there he met his wife Evelyn (Miller). Bob and Evelyn were married on June 24, 1951 and celebrated 61 years together. Two daughters, Colette and Cheryl were born to this union.
Bob was a self-taught mechanic, carpenter, and electrician. He enjoyed working not only on his own projects, but helping neighbors and family as well. His most treasured project was the remodeling of a one room school house into a cabin near the Sangre de Cristo Range at Westcliffe, CO.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Evelyn (8/29/2012), a brother Wilford, brother-in-laws Alvin Rinker, Byron Corfman, Len Kattnig, along with sister-in-laws Eloise Kelsey and Marilyn Miller. He is survived by his sister, Shirley Corfman of Pueblo West, CO, daughter Colette (Dale) Henderson of Minneapolis, KS, granddaughter Leisha (Todd) Kreider of Hummelstown, PA and grandson Bret (Laura) Henderson of Chandler, AZ;daughter Cheryl (Ric) MacKenzie of Sidney, granddaughter Patty (John) McEvoy of Wahoo, NE, granddaughter Kim (Tim) Johnson of Chappell, NE, grandson Dustin (Malissa) MacKenzie of Pawnee, OK, granddaughter Lisa (Jared) Foutz and grandson John MacKenzie of Gillette, WY; sister-in-laws Ruth Rinker, Wilma Kattnig, and Rowena Miller; brother-in-law Wilbur Miller; 11 great grandchildren and numerous, nieces and nephews and friends.
