Marguerite M. Cruise

Marguerite M. Cruise, 95, a long time resident of Sidney passed away Tuesday morning, October 1, 2013 at Sidney Regional Medical Center, Extended Care.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, October 8, 2013 in the Light Memorial Presbyterian Church in Sidney with the Rev. Dixie Voss-Anders and Pastor Doug Birky officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.


Visitation will be held on Monday from 1:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney with the family present from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.

Memorials have been established to the Light Memorial Presbyterian Church.

Marguerite, the only child of William and Anna (Barcel) Malovec was born on May 6, 1918 at Brainard, Nebraska. In 1926 the family moved to David City where she grew up and graduated from the David City High School. After receiving a Union Pacific scholarship she attended the University Of Nebraska Agricultural College majoring in Home Economics. She was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and was active in several college organizations.

On October 12, 1939 she was married to Ray Cruise. Prior to moving to Sidney they lived in Scottsbluff, Nebraska where her husband was employed by the University of Nebraska Extension Service. The following year they moved to Osceola, Nebraska where Ray was Agricultural Extension Agent for Polk County. They lived there for three years, after which her husband entered the U.S. Army. After his discharge they moved to a farm north of Sidney and lived there until 1977 when they moved to Sidney.

Marguerite was a member of the Light Memorial Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. Early on she taught Sunday school, served as Elder and Deacon and was active in the church’s woman’s association. She was past president of the Chapter B.O. of P.E.O. and a member for over 50 years. She was also a member of the Memorial Health Center’s Auxiliary since 1953, also serving as past president. She was also a member of the Providence Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Tehama Temple Shrine Auxiliary.

The joy of her life were her two children; Don Ray and Kathy Ann along with their spouses and her grandchildren. Marguerite enjoyed playing bridge, tole painting and gardening, especially growing roses.

During her lifetime she and her husband spent over 25 years wintering in their condo at The Village of Apache Wells in Mesa, Arizona. While there she attended genealogy and painting classes.

Survivors include her son Don Ray and wife Nancy Cruise of Sidney, NE; her daughter Kathy Ann and husband Rick Nienhuser of Greeley, CO; Grandchildren: Todd, Nathan and Tyler Cruise, Kiley Nienhuser Rasmussen, Lindsay Nienhuser and Kale Nienhuser; Great-grandchildren: Jaecynda Nienhuser, Addalynn Nienhuser, Rylee Nienhuser, Peyton Rasmussen, Jaxton Rasmussen, Jackson Ray Cruise, Katherine Cruise and Charlotte Cruise; sister-in-laws: Geraldine Talich and Kathleen and husband Dr. James Edwards all of Sidney, NE as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ray and brother-in-law Lloyd Talich
