Edna Mcconnell

December 21, 1915 — January 11, 2014

Edna McConnell, 98 of Sidney, Nebraska died Saturday morning, January 11, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Sidney.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, January 16, 2014 in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Sidney with Pastor David Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the Dalton Cemetery.

Memorials have been established to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

Friends may call from 1:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00.


Edna Frieda Leimbach, the daughter of Henry and Emma (Holschen) Leimbach was born December 21, 1915 in Altenburg, Missouri. She was raised on a farm in the Altenburg area.

Edna married Earl Lungwitz and two children were born from this marriage; Carol and Ronald. Later Edna moved to Nebraska and married Merle Christofferson. Three children were born to this marriage; Dale, Linda and Neil.

Merle and Edna farmed in the Dalton/Gurley area for over 40 years until Merle’s death in 1981. At this time Edna moved to Sidney.

Edna married Les McConnell in 1994 in Sidney. Les passed away in 2004. She continued living in Sidney until her death.

Edna enjoyed gardening and multitude of social activities as well as spending time with her family.

Survivors include two daughters: Carol (Ray) Franzen of Sidney, NE and Linda (Jack) Jenkins of Moore, OK; two sons: Dale (Sheila) Christofferson of Lodgepole, NE and Neil (Susan) Christofferson of Edmond, OK; one brother Edgar Leimbach of El Reno, OK; 10 Grandchildren, 25 Great-grandchildren and 8 Great, great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: Walter, Albert and Oswald; four sisters: Hilda, Ella, Suzanne and Louise; and her husband’s Merle Christofferson and Les McConnell.

Holechek Funeral Homes and Cremations in Sidney is serving the McConnell family.
