Dorothy Hawkins

Dorothy Hawkins, 88, of Oshkosh passed away on Friday, January 17, 2014 at the Garden County Health Services Nursing Home in Oshkosh.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at the St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Oshkosh with Pastor Sarah Cordray and Brenda Tophoj officiating. Burial will follow in the Oshkosh City Cemetery.

There will be no visitation and the casket will be closed at the church.

Holechek Funeral Home in Oshkosh is serving the Hawkins family.

A memorial has been established in Dorothy’s name to the Oshkosh Senior Center.

Dorothy Hope Hensley Hawkins was born on April 16, 1925 in Peetz, Colorado to Roy and Alice (Nigh) Hensley. She grew up and received her grammar school education in Oshkosh and her high school education in Long Beach, California. After high school she fell in love, married Jack Nunnley Hawkins, and started her family.

During the war she drove a forklift and after the war, she was a full time mother and homemaker. In their later years, Dorothy and Jack liked to travel in their motor home and enjoyed swap meeting at Quartsite, Arizona.

Dorothy spent her last years in Oshkosh, where she enjoyed her card clubs, Birthday Club and Red Hat Club.

Dort is survived by her daughter, Diana and husband, Gary Sakazaki of Palmdale, CA, son, Larry and wife, Sharyn Hawkins of Hemet, CA; 5 granddaughters; 9 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; and other extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brothers, Kenneth and Babe.
