Dorothy Sweet

Dorothy Sweet, 84, of Sidney and formerly from Oshkosh, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Sidney Regional Medical Center in Sidney, NE. Cremation has taken place and burial is planned for a later date in Stuart, NE.
Dorothy was born July 17, 1929 in Sioux City, IA to LeRoy and Vera Bartlett. She graduated from Stuart High School in 1946 and received a BA from Morningside College in 1950. She later attended Chadron State College where she received her MA in 1978. She earned EMT certification in 1976, a Nursing Home Administrator license in 1983, and Paralegal certification in 1993.
She married John Sweet in 1952. She was employed at Garden County High School as science instructor and Guidance Counselor from 1968 until 1985. She accepted a position in Franklin, NE as Nursing Home Administrator for Beverly Enterprises in 1985. In 1992, she moved to Lincoln, NE and worked as a paralegal with a private law office. Upon retirement, she relocated to Scottsbluff, NE and later resided in Sidney, NE at the Golden Living Assisted Living Retirement Center.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Harold Bartlett.
She is survived by her children, Terri (Jim) Gortemaker, Tom (Doris) Sweet, and Robert Sweet; grandchildren, Josh (Julie) Gortemaker, Lindsay (Matthew) Seidel, Brian Sweet, and Cody (Lacey) Sweet; and great grandsons Jacob Gortemaker and Henry Seidel.
