Dorothy Hays, 92 of Sidney, Nebraska passed away early Tuesday morning, August 5, 2014 at Sidney Regional Medical Center, Extended Care.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, August 8, 2014 in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sidney with Pastor Bradley Heinecke officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials have been established to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Cremation has taken place and there is no visitation at the funeral home. Friends who wish can stop at the funeral home on Thursday to sign Dorothy’s book.

Dorothy Lola Wagner, the daughter of Ernest and Bertha (Keiser) Wagner was born on August 5, 1922 at Imperial, Nebraska. She grew up in Imperial and graduated from Chase County High School. After graduation, she accompanied Donald Hays to California when he joined the Navy.

She married Donald Keith Hays on January 6, 1944 in San Pedro, California before he left for overseas. He was the love of her life for 67 years. They had five children: Irene, Donald, Karen, Daryl and Richard.

Dorothy was a homemaker in the literal term, turning houses into homes each time Don decided to move, and there were many moves. She was one of the first employees of Cabelas where she was a payroll clerk until her retirement.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and LWML.

Survivors include sons: Donald (Sherry) of Victorville, CA, Daryll (Darcy) of Crawford, NE and Rick (Roiann) of Sidney, NE; daughters: Irene Weldon of Sacramento, CA and Karen (Fred) Arnold of Casper, WY; brother Art (Eleanor) Wagner of Imperial, NE; sisters Laurine Meininger of Lincoln, NE, Agnes (William) McCurry of Independence, MO and Betty (Jack) Todd of Grant, NE; 16 grandchildren: Kevin Kuskie, Cheryl Jansen, Debbie Butler, Malissa Weldon, Kelly Dingus, Caryn Guilford, Kristina Cookson, David Hays, Dennis Booth, Barbara Booth, Aaron Arnold, Joseph Hays, Lisa Hays, Casey Hays and Tara Beeman; 25 Great-grandchildren and 5 Great, great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Evelyn and Norma; brother Norm and grandson Christopher.
