Burton "Burt" Fisher

Burton Fisher, 83, of Lewellen, Nebraska passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at the Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 am MST on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at the Holechek Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Lauber of the Community Wesleyan Church of Lewellen officiating. Burial will be held at 3:00 CST at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell with military honors.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Memorials can be left to the Community Wesleyan Church or to the United Methodist Church in Lewellen in memory of his mother, Vivian Fisher.

Holechek Funeral Home and Cremations in Oshkosh is serving the Fisher family.

Burton Fisher was born on August 11, 1931 in Cozad, Nebraska to Leslie Monroe and Vivian Margaret (Atkinson). As a young man he moved with his family to Lewellen where he attended school graduating from Lewellen Rural High School in 1949. After graduation he worked for Mary Beard and the First National Bank before enlisting in the Army in 1951.

His Army career was over 23 years long and he was part of both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was stationed throughout the world, including Japan, Washington DC, Morocco, Laos, Malaysia, and Burma and ending his career in back in Malaysia, working for Army intelligence. He accumulated many medals during his career including, Korean Service Medal, United National Service Medal, National Defense Service Medals, Army Occupation Medal, four Good Conduct Medals, Vietnam Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal and an Army Commendation Medal.

After retiring from the service in 1974 he lived in Colorado Springs for around 10 years before moving back to Lewellen and building a home. He was always exceptionally close to his mother and moved home to help take care of her in her final years. He enjoyed yard work, gardening, and his dogs.

Burt is survived by 2 sisters, Verla Carlson of Winter Haven, FL and Patricia Fisher of Omaha, NE; and 1 brother, Michael Fisher of Palmer, AK.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Bonnie White of Oshkosh, and special nephew, Jerry Carlson.
