Doris McFee, 86 of Chappell, Nebraska died Wednesday evening, February 11, 2015 at the Sterling Regional Medical Center in Sterling, Colorado.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, February 16, 2015 in the Chappell United Methodist Church with Rev. Ezekiel Koech officiating. Burial will follow in the Chappell Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. Sunday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Chappell.

Memorials have been established to the Chappell United Methodist Church or the Sudman Heritage House.

Doris Irene McFee, the daughter of Ernest and Elinor (Cole) Olson was born October 19, 1928 in Modesto, California while the family was on vacation. She grew up on a farm in Garden County where she attended a rural one room school. She graduated from Garden County High School and then attended one year at Kearney State Teacher’s College where she obtained her teaching certificate. She taught country school south of Lewellen for one year.

On June 21, 1947 she was united in marriage to George “LeRoy” McFee at the Berea Lutheran Church northeast of Chappell and to this union four children were born: Lana, Randall, Jane and Wendell. They lived on their farm north of Chappell until 1992 when they moved to town.

Doris stayed at home to raise her family before working at the Miller Memorial Hospital as a nurse’s aide from 1968 to 1974. She then served as the librarian at the Chappell Memorial Library and Art Gallery from 1975 to 1987 then she served as assistant librarian until her retirement. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, going to auctions, quilting and spending time with her only sister. She also enjoyed following all of her grandchildren’s activities and sports-always proud of each of them.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Social Hour Club and the Chappell Museum association.
Doris is survived by two daughters: Lana McFee of Aurora, CO and Jane and husband Jim Starostka of Chappell, NE; two sons: Randall and wife Mary McFee of Colorado Springs, CO and Wendell McFee of Chappell, NE; seven grandchildren: Jennifer (Peter) Smith, Nichole (Ryan) Reiff, Bristole McFee, Matthew (Laura) Starostka, Kyle (fiancé Jill) Starostka, Lydia McFee and Abigail McFee; and seven great-grandchildren: Korbii, Koen and Kamden Reiff and Peter, Sarah, Isabel and Margaret Smith; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband LeRoy in 2008, her parents, a sister Genene Wright and grandson Michael Starostka.
