Esther A. Rumer-Chrans, 93, of Gering, formerly of Lisco, passed away Saturday evening, April 25, 2015 at Heritage Estates Nursing Home in Gering.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 30, 2015 ath St. Gall’s Catholic Church in Lisco with Father Antony Thekkekara officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Cemetery in Oshkosh.
A rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at St. Gall.
Memorials may be designated to St. Gall’s Catholic Church or to the Lisco Fire Department.

Esther Rumer-Chrans was born in Fullerton, NE on October 8, 1921. Esther was a long time resident of Lisco, NE. As a young woman she worked at a drugstore in Lisco, cooked for a corn harvest crew, and later worked at Midwic, Marshalltown, and Dunn’s turkey farm as well as helping keep up the family farm.
She married Alden (Pal) Rumer in 1941 in Lisco. They settled on the family farm and raised four boys. Pal passed away in 1974.
In 1997 Esther married Ted Chrans and moved to Scottsbluff, NE. Ted died in 2008.
She was a member St. Gall’s ladies altar society. Esther was active in the Lakota Club with other ladies in the community. In 1995 Esther received the ‘Old Timer’ award at Lisco given to people who have lived in the Lisco area and contributed to the community.
Esther loved to garden, square dance, play pinochle, and occasionally visit the casinos to try her luck with the slots.
Esther is survived by three sons Tony (Jean), Jim (Mary Anne) and Ron (Tricia), five granddaughters Patty (Bill) Kimme, Debbie Skoglund, LaDonna Rumer, Stacia Rumer, and Kerry (Pete) Havens, four grandsons Michael (Susan) Rumer, Andy (Susy Gloor) Rumer, Eric (Kristy) Rumer and Ken (Amber) Rumer as well as 13 great-grandchildren.
Esther is preceded in death by her son, Darrell, her husbands, parents and siblings.
