            Merle Mick, 90 of Chappell, Nebraska died Thursday, April 30, 2015 at the Sedgwick County Hospital in Julesburg, Colorado.

            Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, October 16, 2015 in the Zion Lutheran Church in Chappell with Pastor Bradley Heinecke of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sidney officiating. Services will conclude at the church with inurnment in the Chappell Cemetery at a later date.

            Memorials have been established to the Zion Lutheran Church or the Zion Lutheran Women’s Society.

            Merle Douglas Mick, the youngest son of Wiley and Ada (Skinner) Mick was born July 9, 1924 at Chappell, Nebraska. He attended rural schools in the Chappell area. During WW II he served in the U.S. Army before being discharged on January 26, 1945. After his discharge he returned to the family farm north of Chappell where he lived his entire life.

            On February 14, 1965 he was united in marriage to Joyce Marlene Dilley in Bridgeport, Nebraska and they made their home on the farm.

Merle raised wheat as well as some cattle, working until he was 86 years old. During the sugar beet campaign in the fall he worked at the sugar factory in Ovid, Colorado. He and his brother Lee worked together as mechanics on a shop on the farm known as Mick Brothers.

            Survivors include one step-son David Mick of Woodrow, CO and three grandsons: Aaron, John and Mathew Mick.

            He was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers, 2 sisters and one son.
