Roger Gray

January 26, 1943 — August 18, 2015

Roger K Gray, 72, of Oshkosh passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, August 18, 2015 at his home.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 24, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in Oshkosh with Pastor Jeniffer Brand officiating. Services will conclude at the church.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Holechek Funeral Home and Cremations in Oshkosh is serving the Gray family.

Roger Kenneth Gray was born in Callaway, Nebraska on January 26, 1943 to Elsie and Gerald Gray. Roger attended grade school in Callaway, Nebraska and graduated from Arnold High School in 1961. He received his Bachelors of Science degree in Secondary Education from Kearney State College, his Masters in Biology from Emporia State College and Education Specialist Certification in Secondary Administration from Chadron State College.

Roger married Mickey Sailor in 1963. The two had been married for 52 years. Their family was also blessed with two sons. Tad Gray in 1964 and Ty Gray in 1968.

Roger’s first teaching job was at Plainview High School in Plainview, Nebraska. After five years, the family moved to Mullen, Nebraska where Roger taught for seven years. In 1977, they made their final move to Oshkosh, Nebraska when Roger took the position of High School Principal. Roger retired from Garden County High School in 2000 and began a new career with Upward Bound in Sidney, Nebraska. After a year, he returned to teaching and signed on to be the Principal for Lisco Elementary School. He stayed there until the school closed four years later.

In retirement Roger continued to enjoy hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with Ginger, his beloved yellow lab. In the past few years he, Mickey and Ginger enjoyed traveling in their RV.

Roger belonged to the North Platte Valley Sportsmen’s Club for many years. He served on the Oshkosh Fire Department, taught GED and hunter safety for 29 years. For the past several years, he has served on the Oshkosh City Council most recently as President.

Roger is survived by his wife, Mickey, two sons Tad (Lisa) of Valley City, Ohio, Ty (Jen) of Phoenix, Arizona. Grand children, Spenser, Caitlin (Cortney), Hunter and Jalin and one great granddaughter, Finnley Jane Gray. Sister-in-law Jo (Ervan) Groves of Oshkosh, Nebraska, Sister-in-law Sherrie Corbin of Anchorage, Alaska, brother-in-law Terry (Dot) Sailor of Syracuse, Nebraska, Aunt Rena Downey of Broken Bow, Nebraska and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
