Allen Moffat, 75, of Oshkosh, died Sunday, April 23, 2017, at the Western Nebraska Veterans Home in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 28, 2017, at the Oshkosh Wesleyan Church with Pastor Mike Ketchens officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Ash Hollow Cemetery near Lewellen.
Allen was a lifelong farmer beginning his life growing up on the family farm south of Oshkosh. Allen was born on March 12, 1942, in Oshkosh, Nebraska to Harold and Alice (Berglund) Moffat. He attended school in the country for a few years and then attended Oshkosh Grade School. He graduated from Garden County High School in 1960. Allen was active in Boy Scouts of America. He was awarded the highest honor of Eagle Scout and traveled to the National Jamboree.
After high school, Allen began farming and raised cattle. In February 1964, Allen was drafted to serve in the Army in Vietnam. He completed basic training at Fort Riley, Kansas. While in Vietnam, Allen was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for heroic service. In February 1966, Allen was honorably discharged from service and returned home to Oshkosh.
Allen married Cheryle Timm on July 5, 1969 at the Berea Lutheran Church. Allen and Cheryle raised three children on the family farm south of Oshkosh. Allen’s family and friends knew him as someone who loved his work and being out in the open fields farming. He always said he liked being his own boss. Allen was also passionate about his antique tractor and pedal tractor collections and refurbishing them.
At the time of his death, Allen resided at the Western Nebraska Veterans Home in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
Survivors include: his wife, Cheryle (Timm) Moffat of Oshkosh, three children, Carissa and Clark Miller of Bethesda, Maryland; Curtis and Becky Moffat of Torrington, Wyoming; and Douglas Moffat of Oshkosh, Nebraska; and four grandchildren, Sydney and Kendley Miller, Bodie and Barrett Moffat.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant twin sister, Althea; a sister, Lila; and a brother, Melvin.
The family has established a memorial in Allen’s name to the Oshkosh Wesleyan Church or encourages donations to a charity of your choice.
