Holechek Funeral Home & Cremation in Sidney is serving the Alexander family.

Ken was born June 4th of 1930 to Albert and Rosaline Alexander in McPherson, Kansas. Kenneth was the oldest of three children but was preceded in death by both his siblings. Ken’s brother, Clinton, died early in life at the age of 12 and his sister, Fern, at age 33.

Kenneth started his schooling in a rural one room schoolhouse but spent most of his middle school years in Burton, Kansas. Due to a family move in 1947, Ken attended his last year of High School in Russell, Kansas and graduated there in 1948.

Ken joined the Air Force in October 1950 and served in both Omaha, NE and several locations throughout Alaska. Ken often mentioned his experiences in Alaska anytime anyone complained about it being cold. A head shaking “you don’t know what cold is” response from Ken was almost an automatic when complaints about the weather surfaced in a coffee shop.

As a young man, Ken was an avid and talented athlete. Baseball was Ken’s sport of choice and he was involved in competitive baseball throughout his younger years. While in the Air Force, Ken was a very accomplished pitcher and played on their AAA level traveling team.

Ken was discharged from the Air force in 1954, got married soon after and moved to Oklahoma to take a job in the oil fields. Ken and his wife lived in Oklahoma for the next 6 years and had 4 daughters during that time frame. Ken and his wife divorced in 1961.

Ken married Julia (Judy) Moench of Potter, NE. in 1962. Along came their daughter Jana (Tarrell) and son Larry Alexander to join Judy’s sons Mike and Marvin Summers.
Ken worked in the oil fields of Nebraska, Wyoming and California. The family moved to California where Ken went to work for Occidental Petroleum for 5 years before moving with the family to Lima Peru South America. Ken worked in the Amazon jungle for an additional 20 years as a Production Supervisor. The highlight of his stay in the jungle was the big Catfish he caught. It was 6’9” long and weighed 250lbs. Ken retired in 1994 and he and Judy moved to Hughes Springs Texas. They lived in Texas in the winter and spent their summer at Lake McConaughy. They moved back to Sidney in 2007 to be closer to family and friends.

Ken loved to fish, hunt, bowl, play baseball and shoot trap. Ken was also an avid gardener and gave most of the produce away.

Ken is survived by his son, Larry Alexander; daughter Jana Tarrell and husband Ev all of Sidney; son, Mike and wife Christine of Wheat Ridge, CO; grandchildren, Reid Doyle and Trever Tarrell of Sidney, Tyler and Alyssa Summers of Wheat Ridge, CO; great-granddaughter, Eva Summers of Wheat Ridge CO; sister-in-law, Donna Johnson and husband Jack of Kimball; brother-in-law Donald and wife Patty of Potter and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Judy; parents; brother; sister; and son, Marvin Summers.
