Connie Walters

Connie Lou Walters, 75, of Oshkosh, Nebraska passed away in her home on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Throughout her illness, she remained strong and unwaivering in her faith, often reminding those she loved to “trust His plan.”

Memorial services will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026, at 2:00 pm at St Mark’s Lutheran Church in Oshkosh with Brenda Tophoj, PMA officiating. Graveside services will be held at Haigler City Cemetery at a later date.

Connie Lou Walters was born on December 22,1950, in Wray, Colorado the daughter of Kenneth Dowell and Ida Freida (Straub) Tucker.

Connie was raised and received her education in Oshkosh. She then moved to Kearney where she lived with her oldest sister and worked as a waitress. She met Larry Walters and the two were married on March 29, 1969, at the First Methodist Church in Kearney. After living in Oshkosh and Oberlin, Kansas, they ultimately settled in Oshkosh, where they built their life together and raised their three daughters, Corina, Deb, and Sheri.

Connie provided childcare when the girls were younger before becoming a CNA/CMA. She worked at the Garden County Nursing Home for five years before becoming a Dispatcher/Jailer at the Garden County Sheriff’s Office. Connie took great pride in serving her community and dedicated 35 years of loyal service before retiring in June 2018.

Connie had a natural green thumb and loved gardening. She enjoyed growing flowers and vegetables, canning what she grew and caring for indoor plants. She rarely missed a drive out to the river to catch the sunset, looked for shooting star flowers in the meadow and enjoyed Sandhills crane watching. She also found peace at her favorite bench at Lake Mac. Connie never knew a stranger and had a gift for making everyone feel welcome. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Connie will also be remembered for her love of rocks. She acquired them on all of her travels no matter where she went. Whenever family and friends traveled, they would bring her back a rock for her collection, for her that was the perfect gift.

Connie is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Corina Walters of Bayard, Deb and Doug Holmes of Grand Island, and Sheri and Joe McCord of Oshkosh; Grandchildren, Shania and Jacob Ashmore, Kimberly Kleist, Sydney Holmes, Gabriel Holmes, Connor and Megan McCord, Chandler McCord and Makayla Brumbaugh, and Reid McCord; Great-Grandchildren, Jane and Tyrone Ashmore, Jaxon and Chance McCord, Hope Ward, and Lilliann and Walker McCord, Sisters, Ida Mae Tucker, Allie Schuff and Merlene Tucker; Brothers, Kenny (Kathy) Tucker and Melvin Tucker; and many dear nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Walters, her parents, Kenneth and Ida Tucker, brother, Larry Tucker, granddaughter Ida Grace Kleist, and grandson Tyrone Bozzetto.
