Dolores May (Brown)Castle was born on February 13,1930 in Lakeside, NE to Thomas and Mabel (Sharp)Brown. Dolores grew up in the hard times of the 1930's in Keya Paha County. The family lived in Springview, NE until her father’s death in 1958.
Dolores married Dan Davis in 1948 and moved later to Chadron, NE where they lived until 1963. Four children were born while she lived in Chadron: Dan, Debbie, Darrel, and Diana. In 1963 the family moved to Chappell, NE where Dolores had a number of jobs beginning with being a seamstress at the local dry cleaners. Later she took a job managing the Chappell Livestock sale barn office for many years.
After a divorce, Dolores married Wilmer Castle. They made a life in Chappell until his death 1990. Dolores served as Deuel County Treasurer and later worked for Leprino Cheese as a lab worker. After "retiring" from this job at age 65, she went to work at Chappell Drug and was secretary for the Methodist Church and treasurer for the Senior Center. She retired for good at age 85...she always said that it kept her mind sharp to keep busy working. And it did until the insidious disease, Dementia/Alzheimer’s, took it from her.
Dolores loved to play golf, playing cards and working crossword puzzles and was an avid reader. Her favorite times were watching her Huskers and visiting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dolores is survived by her sons; Dan (Mary) Davis, and Darrel (Jenny) Davis and daughters; Debbie Davis (Gary Short), Diana Hillyer; grandchildren, Skylar (Sharon) Hillyer, Wes (Ashley) Hillyer, Amy Gabrielle and Lacey Short (Mike Minor); 12 great-grandchildren, sister Carmelita Edwards and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wilmer Castle, brothers Gerald, Willard and Clifford Brown, sisters Eva Brown, Virginia Grooms, Hazel Lolly, and Norma Bartlett and a still-born daughter.
