Doris died in her sleep on Easter Sunday April 5th at the age of 92.

There will be a Celebration of Life for her at the Tiger Den in Lewellen on Monday, May 4th at 12:00 followed by a graveside service at Plum Creek Cemetery. The public is welcome to join the family for the Celebration of Life for Doris. Lunch will be served, please RSVP to her daughter Karen by calling or texting (541)771-0064 if you plan to attend. A memorial has established for the Tiger Den in her honor.

Doris Marie (Johnson) Fischer was born January 20th 1934, to Ralph and Lottie (Preston) Johnson at home near Oconto Nebraska in Custer County, she was the youngest of 6 children.

Doris attended grade school in Custer County at District #231. When she was 7 years old her mother passed away. At the age of 13 Doris, her father, and two of her brothers relocated to a ranch in McPherson County near Tryon. She kept house and cooked for her family for the next 5 years while attending school.

Doris attended high school at McPherson County High School in Tryon, graduating mid-term in her senior year. At the age of 18 she left her family home and moved to Ogallala to work at Goodall’s Manufacturing. While living in Ogallala she met and married Albert Fischer. The were married on January 9th, 1954, in Raton, New Mexico. Doris and Albert were married for 51 years before Albert passed away on April 2nd 2005.

Doris and Albert had two daughters, Kendra Sue, and Karen Ann. Shortly after Karen was born, they moved from Lewellen to a farm on the tableland south of Lewellen and lived there until 1970. Doris worked outside the home cleaning houses after the girls started school. In 1970 Doris and Albert moved the farmhouse from the tableland to a piece of land just west on Lewellen on highway 26. That December Kendra was killed in a car accident.

In 1973 Doris started working full-time for TRW in Ogallala where she worked for 3 years. She then went to work at Marshalltown in Oshkosh until the plant moved to West Virginia in 1995. Doris and Albert moved to West Virginia with the company for the next 2 ½ year, where she helped with set up and training for the new location.

In February 2021 her home west of Lewellen was destroyed by a propane gas explosion. Following the lose of her home, Doris moved to the nursing home in Oshkosh where she lived until her death.

Doris enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, and reading. She belonged to several bridge and pinochle clubs. She has served on the council for Grace Lutheran Church where she was a member since 1955.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Albert, her daughter Kendra, sister Berdina, and her brothers Ralph, Donald, Stanley, and infant brother Morris. She is survived by her daughter Karen Brannon of Bend Oregon and many nieces and nephews.
