Harley Altena

Harley Altena, 62, of rural Lisco passed away Friday, June 25, 2021, at his home.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at the Oshkosh Wesleyan Church with Pastors Bruce Neal and Kerry Johnson officiating.  Burial will follow in the St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Cemetery near Oshkosh.

The funeral will be streamed live via the Holechek-Bondegard Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/hbfunerals) and available to watch after the service.

Memorials in Harley’s name can be made to the family for later designation.

The family suggests flowers and condolences be ordered through Ranch Daisies (308-772-4468) in Oshkosh.

Harley was born May 9, 1959, in Rock Rapids, Iowa to Dick and Winifred Altena of Iowa. He was the only boy in the middle of five sisters. He grew up in Ireton, Iowa where he had a love for building cars and made it his hobby throughout high school.

He graduated West Sioux High School in 1977. He met Shelly, his forever wife in 1992, along with his two children, Desarie and Travis. They were married and added to the family, welcoming two daughters together, Brittany and Chelsea.

Harley loved his family and enjoyed training colts and riding horses throughout his life. He had a way with a horse that not many could mimic. Following his passion, he moved his family to the Sandhills in 1993 where he continued living his dream of riding horses and managing cattle, ranching North of Hyannis, Nebraska. In May of 2011, Harley and Shelly moved to north of Oshkosh, Nebraska and continued their love of cattle and ranch work. In2015, Harley accepted a position for Rush Creek Land and Live Stock in rural Lisco where he continued his passion on the back of a horse.

Harley will be forever loved and missed by all those who were close to him and his family. The family would like to thank everyone for their condolences during this difficult time.  Please know we appreciate all of the thoughts and prayers we have received.

Harley is survived by his wife Shelly, sisters Wanetta (Rod), Eunice (Dave), Joella (Rick), Lori (Rod), Audrey (Michael), children Desarie (Charles), Travis (Kelly), Brittany (Matthew),Chelsea (Jordan), 12 grandchildren Cassandra, Aubrey, Mason, Jackson, Owen, Lauren, Megan, Tessa, Brianna, Xander, Corbin, and Brycen, and various nieces and nephews.

Harley is proceeded in death by his parents Dick and Winifred Altena and brother-in-law Rodney (Wanetta).
