Harold Travis

Harold Travis, 67, of Gurley passed away June 20, 2026 in Sidney.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, July 11, 2026 at the Dix Firehall with lunch to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to the Dix Volunteer Fire Department and can be left at the Potter State Bank or with the family.

Holechek-Bondegard Funeral Home and Cremations in Oshkosh is serving the Travis family.

Harold Eugen Travis was born on August 8, 1958 in Kimball, Nebraska. He was raised on the Travis family farm north of Dix. Graduating from Dix High School in 1976 he then attended WyoTech in Laramie Wyoming.

Harold loved being a part of the Dix fire department for many years and couldn’t wait to see them get their new addition added onto the fire hall, not only did he serve on the fire department, but served as the Dix Village Mayor.

\His love and passion for working on things lead him to wear many different hats. No matter what hat he was wearing, he always took care of his customers and could always bring a smile to their face no matter how big their bill was. His biggest joy in life is when his son Kellan was born on October 24, 1990. Together over the years Kellan and Harold created a great bond and continued to grow their dreams of farming together.

On April 6, 2012, Harold and Janese finally tied the knot after life had taken both of them on different paths, but the chase of 30 + years was well worth the wait and together the two of them created a lot of great memories. Together the two built a life in Gurley where Harold loved to tinker in his back shop that he put so much time and effort into fixing up. When you didn’t see Harold working, he loved going to the mountains, he loved leading the way along the trails and this gave him one of many nicknames, “Camp Master”. He also had a love and passion for farming, spending many hours in the field, where he found great joy.

Over the years Harold gained the title of grandpa/papa and loved teaching his grandkids all about farming and the outdoors along with so many other life lessons and memories they will cherish learning from him.

Harold is survived by his wife Janese Travis of Gurley, son Kellan (Dakota) Travis of Dix, stepdaughter Sheena (Ryan) Jenson of Sidney, grandkids Avrilynne, Owen, and Wyatt (Travis), Nora, Leah, and Noah (Jenson), sisters; Barbara Travis-Henne of McCook, Bettye Smith of Ft. Collins, Judy Allison of Kimball, Karen Schroder of Cheyenne and brother David Smith of Idaho, mother-in law Bernice Russell of Gurley, sister-in-law Jennifer Russell of Gurley, brothers-in law Rodney Russell of Potter and Bryan Russell of Gurley along with seven nieces, twelve nephews and numerous extended family members, friends and his furry side campion Zoey.

Harold is proceeded in death by his sister Sandy Eich, brothers Morgan Smith and Elmer Travis, one niece along with friends who had gone before him.
