Ivan Dewayne Brauer, 92, of Chappell, NE passed away on September 12th at Devonshire Acres, Sterling Co.

Graveside services will be held at Pleasant View Cemetery in Lodgepole, NE on September 18th at 11:00 am with Pastor Brent DeJong of the Grace Community Fellowship in Chappell officiating.

Ivan was born April 3, 1934, Southeast of Sidney, NE, the 5th child of 6, to Albert and Laura (Phelps) Brauer. He attended parochial school through the 8th grade and attended Sidney High School for two years. In 1952 he graduated from Englewood High School, Englewood, CO. After graduation, Ivan moved back to Sidney to work in his oldest brother's meat market shop.

In 1955, Ivan was drafted to the Navy, serving his time aboard the Yorktown aircraft carrier in the Pacific. After the service, Ivan moved to Chappell, NE to help his parents in their meat packing plant. In 1958 he married Bonnie Zalesky of Lodgepole, NE. Ivan and Bonnie later purchased the business; successfully operating Brauer Packing. To this marriage, two children were born, Laurie and Stanley.

During his time in Chappell, Ivan was a part-time (on call) Deputy Sheriff, President of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, a Fire Department volunteer, and was a member of the Chappell Lions Club. Ivan was 1 of 4 men instrumental in developing the current 9-hole Chappell Golf Club.

In 1975 Ivan sold the packing plant, and the family moved to Yuma, CO where he worked in the fertilizer business. In 1986, while living in Phoenix, he met and married Joyce, and together they moved back to Yuma. The opportunity to fulfill his true passion for golf course operations presented itself. Ivan was the superintendent of the Yuma Golf Course for over 20 years.

Ivan is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, his parents, Albert and Laura, brothers Norman, David, Merle, Virgil, and sister Dolores.

Ivan is survived by his children, Laurie of Phoenix, AZ, and Stan (Dee) of Akron, CO, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
