John McVicker, 87, of Lisco, passed away Sunday, June 24, 2018 at Great Plains Health Hospital in North Platte.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 29, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church in Bridgeport with Pastors Bud Gillespie and Jonathan Berosek officiating. Burial will follow in the Lisco Memorial Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation.
Memorials in John’s name can be made to the Lisco Legion Hall or to the Lisco Memorial Cemetery Fence Fund.
Holechek-Bondegard Funeral Home and Cremations in Oshkosh is serving the McVicker family.
John E. McVicker was born on February 13, 1931, the third child of six, to Grant and Evelyn (Thompson) McVicker in Lamar, Colorado. John grew up around Colorado and graduated from Wiley High School in Wiley, Colorado. John was an excellent athlete and played many sports, including football, basketball, and track.
He was united in marriage to Elloise Ewing on December 31, 1950, in Wiley. He served 8 years in the Colorado National Guard. They made their home in Wiley until 1976 when they moved to Lisco.
From the day he was born, he wanted to be a farmer. John and Elloise bought a farm near Lisco, and he spent his years teaching the next generations the ways of the farm. After he retired in 1995, they wintered in Zapata, Texas, for many years where they enjoyed golfing, card games, and spending time with family.
He was a longtime member of the Presbyterian Church in Lisco.
John is survived by his wife, Elloise of Lisco; daughters, Cindy and husband, Gary Shotton of Broken Arrow, OK and Pam and husband, Don Girard of Silver Lake, KS; son Barry and wife, Kris McVicker of Lisco; grandchildren, Vince and wife, Andrea Shotton, Shauna and husband, Travis Wortinger, Bryon and wife, Tamra Shotton, Jenny and husband, Paul Denton, Scott and wife, Jen Girard, Elisa and husband, Travis Rodak and Trent and wife, Amy McVicker; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Bessie Arreguy; brothers, Blaine and wife, Marilyn McVicker, Ellwin and wife, Doris McVicker, and Jerry and wife, Julie McVicker; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Willis.
