It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Leo Eldon Porter, who went home to be with Jesus on April 27th, 2025, at the age of 84. A devoted servant of God, Leo lived a life marked by faith, hard work, and service to others.
Leo devoted over 40 years to the ministry and mission of Buffalo Canyon Retreat, a place that became a haven of peace, laughter, and faith for so many. A hardworking rancher and self-employed provider, Leo was as skilled with his hands as he was generous with his heart.
Known for a quick wit, sharp sense of humor, and epic storytelling, Leo could captivate any room and bring joy to the ordinary. He had a gift for making people laugh, think, and feel seen—often all in the same story.
Leo leaves behind a loving family who carry forward his spirit and legacy: His wife Judy Porter, son Leo Porter Jr., daughter Lorri Meissler (husband Steve Meissler), and daughter Lisa Mason (husband Gene Mason). He was a proud and cherished grandpa to Issac Porter, Devon Mason, Chris Mason, and Gene Mason III.
Though his stories may fall silent, the impact of Leo’s life continues in every life he touched. We find comfort knowing he is home with Jesus, likely already spinning a great tale in Heaven.
A celebration of life will be held at the Buffalo Canyon retreat on May 3rd at 10:00. Burial will be at the Oshkosh City Cemetery.
Holechek-Bondegard Funeral Home and Cremations in Oshkosh is serving the Porter Family.
