Richard was born February 23, 1929 at the farm in Cheyenne County, 10 miles south of Lisco.  His parents were Minnie and Gustav Hennig.  He graduated from Garden County High School in 1946.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953.  In 1954 he married Dolores Fisher of Sidney and in 1961 they moved to Lisco.

Rich owned and operated Lisco Elevator for many years while also farming in Cheyenne County and Garden County.  Gus is remembered for his community service and for his gentle and kind ways.  He loved sitting on the porch visiting with family and friends and talking about life in Nebraska.  Within his family he will always be remembered for his driving lessons, working crosswords and Sudoku, growing delicious tomatoes, eating dessert after every meal (usually ice cream), sending birthday cards with a newspaper cartoon inside, and those military calisthenics every morning before breakfast.

Survivors in the Hennig clan are his sister Ada of Sidney; sister Arlene of Cottonwood, AZ; sons Kent (Dawn) of Dallas, and Brad (Julie) of Kearney; 5 grandkids, Tara (Brandon) of Sheridan, WY, Jay (Jess) of Pittsburgh, PA, Carly in Chicago, IL, Valerie (Brad) of Midlothian, TX, and Elaine in Houston, TX; and one great grandson, Grant in Midlothian.
