Norma Wright

November 1, 1938 — February 7, 2021

Family and friends who were unable to attend the funeral service for Norma Wright are invite to attend a memorial service to be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 6, 2021 at the Chappell United Methodist Church.  A graveside service will follow in the Chappell Cemetery.   A gathering of friends will continue at Burgie’s following both services. 

Norma Gail King Wright, 82, passed away Sunday evening, February 7, 2021 at the Regional West Nursing Home in Oshkosh.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am. Friday, February 12, 2021 at the Chappell United Methodist Church with Pastor Ceciliah Igweta and Bill Klingman officiating.  Services will conclude at the church.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2021 with details to follow.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services Friday at the church.

Holechek-Bondegard Funeral Home and Cremations in Chappell is serving the Wright family.

Norma was born on November 1, 1938 to John Ray King and Margaret H. Wherry King in Sutherland NE.

Norma attended country school up until 6th grade. She then attended Jr and Sr high school at Sutherland Public School, Sutherland NE, Graduating in 1956.

Norma attended Nebraska State University in Kearney, graduating with a teacher’s certificate in 1959. Norma moved to Chappell to teach grade school in the fall of 1959. Norma met Robert “Bob” C. Wright shortly after moving into town. After a whirlwind romance Bob proposed to Norma. They were married on April 9, 1960 at the United Methodist Church in Chappell.

They lived, farmed and custom combined together on the Homesteaded Wright Family Farm just north of Chappell for a little over 60 years. Norma taught grade school for 1year. After finding out they were pregnant with twins, Scott Curtis and Stanley Robert, they made the decision for her to stay home to raise the family and work on the farm. Very shortly after the twins were born, Kristi Rae arrived. Then 16 months later Karla Jo was born. Four children in a little over 3 years!

Norma mastered the art of cooking for a large number of men during harvest seasons up until just a few years ago. Together they stayed on the farm to raise their family.

Norma was a member of the United Methodist Church of Chappell for over 60 years. She participated in the many functions of the church. She was a member of Jolly Jane, a crafting club for many years. Together they were part of a dinner club for over 40 years.

Norma is preceded in death by her parents John Ray and Margaret Wherry King, daughter Karla Wright Schaffer, brother Wayne “Butch” King, brother in law, Jim Colburn, and step granddaughter Katie Stapleton.

Survivors include her husband Robert C “Bob” Wright of Chappell, sons Stan (Lavena) Wright of Hollis OK, Scott Wright of Wichita, Kristi (Mike) Wright Ness of Julesburg, sister Beverly King Colburn of Sutherland NE,10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
